Arctic Terns vs Arctic Fox
During the Svalbard expedition in late July, I had some interesting encounters with the Arctic Fox and Arctic Tern. The fox could not restrain itself from trying to steal eggs or chicks from the Arctic Terns and the adult terns defended their nests bravely. Several times the terns attacked and nipped at the ears and head of the fox and it was obvious that it was quite painful for the fox.

It´s not easy to photograph these fast moving diving terns. The best way to capture them is to watch with one eye outside the viewfinder. When the terns did attack I just hit the shutter release and hoped to capture some of the action.

Ole,
Besides capturing a wonderful natural history moment, those are some beautiful images of terns. Splendid use of color and motion and lighting. Great stuff.
Thanks Patrick
Nice to hear this from you!!
wonderful shots, the fox's expressions are priceless.
Poor fox. He simply hungry and looking for food. Thank you for showcasing how powerful is 300mm f2.8. The bokeh is simply outstanding!
Why the switch to Flash to display still photos? You've just cut out all iPhone/iPad users and those who prefer to not load flash on their desktops; whereas before you beautiful pictures displayed fine in any browser.
These are some amazing captures Ole!
Love the 5th one in particular!
Hi Brian
Very good feedback! I will remove the flash-images for my next blogs…
Thanks Ravi and Tom
